How Our Paycheck Calculator Works

Our paycheck calculator helps you estimate your take-home pay after taxes and deductions. Understanding your net pay can help you budget more effectively and plan your finances.

Regular and Overtime Earnings

The calculator starts by computing your gross earnings based on the hours worked and your hourly rate. Regular hours are paid at your standard rate, while overtime hours are multiplied by 1.5, 2, or 3 times your regular rate depending on your selection.

Taxes and Deductions

From your gross pay, we calculate various deductions:

  • Federal Income Tax: Based on the percentage you input (defaults to 15%).
  • State Income Tax: Based on the percentage you input (defaults to 5%).
  • Social Security Tax: Fixed at 6.2% of gross pay up to the annual wage base limit.
  • Medicare Tax: Fixed at 1.45% of all gross pay.
  • Retirement Contributions: Optional percentage-based deduction from gross pay.
  • Other Deductions: Any additional fixed dollar amount deductions.

Net Pay Calculation

Your net pay is calculated by subtracting all taxes and deductions from your gross pay. This is the amount you'll actually receive in your paycheck.

Note: This calculator provides estimates only. Actual tax calculations can be more complex and depend on your specific tax situation, filing status, allowances, and other factors. For accurate tax advice, please consult with a tax professional.
